Guilty Gear Strive Hits 3 Million Players Milestone

Guilty Gear Strive celebrated its third anniversary in mid-June, announcing that the game has now reached 3 million players worldwide.

This anime fighter was originally launched on PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as PC in 2021, followed by a Japanese arcade release in July of the same year. It later became available on Xbox One and Series X|S in March 2023, and also joined Xbox Game Pass.

3 million players, but how many sales?

The exact sales figure corresponding to this player milestone remains unclear. By August of last year, the game had sold 2.5 million copies, with no further updates on its commercial performance from Arc System Works and Bandai Namco.

Strive marked the return of the mainline Guilty Gear series since 2014's Guilty Gear Xrd, and it was the first title in the franchise to debut on current-gen consoles.

In addition to post-launch DLC introducing new fighters, plans are in place for an upcoming anime adaptation of Strive story mode. Produced by animation studio Sanzigen (known for creating an animated music video for the game), the Dual Rulers series will bring the world of Strive to life.

Following the successful ventures of fighting game franchises like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, and Tekken into animation, Arc System's decision to explore this medium with its latest fighting game seems fitting, aiming to raise further awareness for the beloved Guilty Gear universe.
